William Walter Hansen papers, [ca. 1962-1966].

The collection consists of papers of William Walter Hansen from ca. 1962-1966 regarding his work with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). The papers include personal correspondence from Hansen to his wife Ruthie Buffington Hansen detailing his activities; community profiles drawn up by the Office of Economic Opportunity detailing economic conditions in Fannin, Glascock, Houston, Peach, and Pulaski counties in Georgia; and SNCC field reports for Cambridge (Md.), Albany (Ga.), and Jefferson, Lincoln, Phillips, and St. Francis Counties in Arkansas. The collection also contains information on the Arkansas democratic primary (1966) particularly in Pulaski County, economic conditions in Arkansas, and printed material. The collection contains a great deal of information on SNCC activities, voter registration drives, school integration, and economic and community development.
